We are encouraging businesses to engage with a county-wide programme to identify and address
skills shortages. The government-funded Hertfordshire Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP), headed up by the
county’s Chamber of Commerce, requires the input of organisations to recognise the areas where talent
is needed now and for the future. The LSIP is bringing industries together with further education colleges, the University of Hertfordshire and other training providers, to help shape the courses required to support the county’s workforce.
Simon Heywood, Managing Director said: “This is an important initiative to uncover the skills that are
lacking in our county and find ways to ensure the required training is available.”
Simon will be representing building control on the panel at the construction focus group held by the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce.
The LSIP will clearly define the skills employers are looking for and the changes required to help ensure that post-16 technical education addresses these requirements. A report will be drafted setting out those key priorities, bringing together employers and providers to understand skills needs and provision. A skills survey, the largest of its kind to have been carried out in the county, is available for all businesses to complete. “It is important that organisations have their say and we would encourage all employers to take part.”
