We’re delighted to announce our unprecedented success in the recent regional Local Authority Building Control awards grand finals 2023, in securing top national awards including scooping LABC Team of the Year!
More than 900 leading construction industry figures attended the LABC Building Excellence Awards Grand Finals 2023 at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London on Friday 19th to celebrate best practice, quality, and exemplary standards in construction.
Local Authority Building Control Team of the Year
HBC received multiple endorsements from customers who said our team consistently fostered a positive and collaborative working relationship, demonstrating a commitment to supporting projects from the initial design phase through to completion. Regardless of the situation, HBC remained readily available, promptly addressing any inquiries or concerns that arose. Our team’s cohesive approach and effective teamwork were instrumental in delivering satisfactory solutions.
Customer endorsements for our professionalism, responsiveness and building control expertise put us in the running for the Team of the Year category.
That coupled with our positive contribution to the wider LABC network through working groups and regional meetings ensures we can keep the entire team abreast of changes and developments within the evolving building control profession. As well as adopting the LABC ISO 9001 Quality Management System our continued recruitment of new talent into the profession through our apprenticeship programme demonstrates a commitment to public service building control and futureproofing our service.
Congratulating the whole team on their success, Gary Cass HBC, CEO said:
“to every member of our team, your commitment to excellence and your role in safeguarding the public through regulatory oversight have made this possible. The visionary decision to amalgamate eight local authorities in Herts into our organisation laid the foundation for a more robust, resilient, efficient, and innovative approach to building control. This groundbreaking move has not only streamlined our processes but also fostered a culture of collaboration and excellence”.

Best New Small Residential Development
We are delighted to be jointly awarded ‘Best Small Volume New Housing Development’ with local architecture firm Anthony Jane Architects & Interiors and Lee & Sibley Building Contractors.
Set in the small village of Braughing, Hertfordshire, the Chestnuts project consists of four meticulously crafted properties. Situated within the idyllic garden of the clients’ Grade II listed traditional Georgian house. Executed to a very high standard, the project seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology, ensuring it exists harmoniously with the original Georgian residence, transforming it into a ‘smart’ house with minimal operational expenses.
Hertfordshire Building Control demonstrated their extensive knowledge and responsiveness throughout the Chestnuts project. Our building control surveyors played a pivotal role within both the design and site teams. Bringing extensive knowledge of all building types and materials to maintain a successful outcome. The team benefited from Isobel Porter’s availability to ensure compliance and provide insight into product suitability and performance. This knowledge and dedication contributed significantly to the success of Chestnuts.
