HBC joins 5% Club

Our commitment to the 5% Club means being committed to our training and development programmes for all our employees. With The 5% Club, the goal is very clear – it’s about industry doing something practical to address the youth unemployment and skills shortage that the UK faces. The 5% Club gives members like ourselves the opportunity formalise what we do in terms of apprentice and graduate programmes. It is making a public declaration that our organisation will aim to reach 5% of its workforce being apprentices and/or graduates. We’re delighted that Hertfordshire Building Control has already reached this target!

We aim to play a role in transforming the fortunes of talented people in the UK and to ensure that the UK retains its reputation for innovation. Simon Heywood MD says

“At HBC we’re recruiting surveyors at undergraduate level and sponsoring them through both degree and professional level courses because we see the value in our people and our skills base for the future”

Our apprentices

As a member of The 5% Club, we endeavour to play our part as is fitting for our business.  We are:

  • Committed to helping the country’s growth agenda and acknowledging the importance of developing our people as both a business and social imperative.
  • Playing our part in addressing youth unemployment and skills shortage
  • Pledging to work toward having a minimum 5% of our UK workforce enrolled on formalised apprentice, sponsored student and/or graduate development schemes
  • Measuring and reporting on our progress annually against the above metric in our Annual Report and Accounts or equivalent document
  • Committed to encouraging other businesses to participate in the campaign.
