Hertfordshire Building Control is proud to have supported Dacorum Borough Council in reaching a significant milestone with the completion of its 500th council home at the St Margarets Way development in Leverstock Green.

Our registered building inspectors provided comprehensive building control services throughout the construction of these modern, energy-efficient homes. The new development offers a mix of one and two-bedroom flats alongside two and three-bedroom houses, all thoughtfully designed to enhance living standards while minimising environmental impact.

The 46 new properties at St Margarets Way incorporate advanced sustainability features, including air source heat pumps for efficient, low-carbon heating and hot water. Additionally, each house benefits from rooftop solar panels, generating renewable electricity and helping residents reduce their energy costs. The development also boasts landscaped communal gardens, secure bike storage, and dedicated car parking spaces with electric vehicle charging facilities.

Funded by Homes England and constructed by the Helix Group, this project is a key achievement in Dacorum Borough Council’s ongoing efforts to deliver much-needed affordable housing across the borough.

Since launching its ambitious ‘Building for the Future’ programme in 2013, Dacorum Borough Council has consistently met and exceeded its housing targets. This latest completion at St Margarets Way follows successful projects such as the award-winning Mountbatten View development in Hemel Hempstead, which secured the gold award at our Hertfordshire Building Control Awards 2025.

Cllr Simy Dhyani, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Property Services at Dacorum Borough Council, said:

St Margarets Way is a significant milestone for Dacorum Borough Council as we complete our 500th affordable home as partof the development. It marks a huge achievement in our commitment to providing high-quality, affordable homes, and ensuring that everyone has access to safe and secure housing. Reaching this landmark reinforces our mission to support the community and address the ongoing housing crisis.”
