Why is Hertfordshire Building Control a great career choice?

The training and development which we receive is second to none. It is given by people who have a wealth of experience in the construction industry, in a range of different ways. For example through site inspections or seminars. This is fantastic for learning and personal growth and will hopefully lead to a very successful career.

What do you most enjoy about your current role?

There’s a fantastic atmosphere both in the office and out, everybody is easy to get on with and every day promises something different from the last.

How do you see your career progressing?

I’m currently still studying at university and have four years left, however, once this is finished I’m looking to progress my career by gaining chartership status for RICS. Even once this is achieved this an industry where you will learn something new every day so there are always opportunities to gain knowledge which is something which I thrive on.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about joining the HBC graduate programme?

Go for it! They’re a great company to work for and they’ll support you every step of the way to becoming qualified.

Why is Hertfordshire Building Control a great career choice?

Hertfordshire Building Control is a great company to work for if you’re looking to continually learn and progress. I came to this company as an undergraduate where I have been given the chance to enrol at university and complete my building surveying degree. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to study for this degree whilst working at a building control company as I feel it will benefit me in the long run by giving me the experience I need as well as the correct qualification.

What do you most enjoy about your current role?

There are several things I enjoy about my role as a trainee building control surveyor, the first being variety. I love the fact that no two days are ever the same, whether that’s in regards to plan checks or going out on site. I also really enjoy shadowing my buddy on site as I feel I learn something new every day.

How do you see your career progressing?

I hope to begin my chartership after I have finished my degree. My aim is to follow the RICS route and to qualify as a Chartered building inspector. After this, I hope to make my way up to a senior role and then potentially management.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about joining the HBC graduate programme?

My advice for someone who is thinking about joining our team as a graduate is to go for it. The skills and opportunities that you are given in such a competitive and desired industry are invaluable. You are also given a huge amount of support throughout your training to help you to become the best possible surveyor.
