Contractor: Peabody Services Ltd Architect: Hunter & Partners Ltd Project: Phase 1 (West Wing) – Ground floor entrance extension and refurbishment. Plus reconfiguration of an existing sheltered housing scheme consisting of 20 flats and communal areas.
Chelsea Court is located within the Royal Hospital Conservation Area, situated off Chelsea Embankment. The apartments benefit from excellent views of the River Thames as well as Battersea Park beyond. Working as part of our cross-boundary system, we’re leading the compliance process on this fascinating development, refurbishing, restoring, and extending the current building and its communal areas.
Completed in 1895 Chelsea Court was originally designed as a mansion block containing 18 flats. A conversion of the building completed in the 1980s turned the building to its current use which contains 78 dwellings. Currently managed by Peabody (formerly Family Mosaic) Chelsea Court offers affordable accommodation for older residents. However, the standard of accommodation is below that which they’d like to provide.
The inspection work we are conducting includes inspecting the internal reconfiguration of the existing accommodation resulting in 20 newly laid out units, in addition to the refurbishment of 51 flats. The demolition of the northern entrance and its replacement with a new welcoming communal entrance is nearly at its completion stages. The finished result should make for a much-improved environment for both current and new residents.
